5.11.2 What are you Doing: application


DOL warm-up:
Change the words to the active tense using “–ing
1.1 wash 2 jump
3 kick 4 run
5 swim 6 sing
7 make
when correcting, be sure to go ove r the two key points you're making
1) when to add a second letter (to keep the short vowel sound, there MUST be two consonants in between the vowels!!!)
2) when changing long vowel verbs like make, you must remove the 'e' and replace it with an 'i' to maintain the long vowel sound.

Grammar: add + ing to all the words

Speaking: interactive powerpoint: go around in groups, whole class asks 1 table "What are you doing?"
Students at the table respond according to picture.

5.10.1 Would you like some more?

Goodmorning, Class! Check Textbook, S &J, Notebook.
Vocabulary: full, fork, knife, spoon, chopsticks
Spelling Words: cake, grapes, pear, boat, glue, mother, father
read and mime the vocab/spelling words, then ask the kids what they think todays lesson will be about. Warn them also that 10.4 lesson we will have a vocab/spelling test, so please study the words on the board!

Game: Let's go blindfold: one student stands in the front of the class and suggests what we will do. "Let's go hiking..." if the picture is correct, then the class says, sounds good! if they're wrong, they will say, "sorry I can't."

ss what the words are, but only talk about where, what and how, you do these activities (ENGLISH ONLY) later, we will look at pictures and it will be more clear!
introduce phrases: Let's go ____ + ing. & "Sory I can't."

GRAMMAR RULE: Each sentence can only have ONE ACTION WORD, so we change the above actions using ING.

Using pictures, kids say each phrase together.
"Let's go swimming!"
"Let's go shopping!"
"Let's go camping!"

Game: students listen to teacher: look at the picture on the board. I will say a sentence. "Let's go ___ing" if the phrase matches the picture, say "Great!" or "Sounds good!" BUT if it does not match; if I say let's go hiking, but the picture is for swimming, say, "sorry I can't" or "I don't want to."

Warn kids that there will be a test at the end of this class, and they should pay special attention to the vocabulary words and conversation topics!
